Beskrivelse
Maleri - Kobber - Første halvdel av 1700-tallet
Italia

Íñigo López de Loyola, most known as Ignatius of Loyola, born around 1491 in Loyola (today in the municipality of Azpeitia). He was the founder of the Society of Jesus. In November 1537, while he was going to Rome along the Francigena, he entered in a chapel where, absorbed in prayer, had a vision of Jesus Christ with the cross on his shoulders. The Father told him: “I want you to take this as a servant of yours” and Jesus said, talking to Ignatius: “I want you to serve us”. The mystical phenomenon had a clear impact on the founding of the Society of Jesus.

This beautiful painting is an ‘oil on copper’, with golden frame. It was restored in 2007 by fixing the painting film, cleaning, removing old repainting, stucco work for any deficiencies, and painting.
