Very rare “Bartmannskrug” (Bearded Man Jug) - 16th century - 17th century.
German - light-coloured ceramic jug with a bulbous shape on a round foot with a slightly retracted stand, drawn-in neck with a small, restored spout above the stylized, but naturalistic, handmade face of a bearded man. Prince’s coat of arms inside a type of wreath on the front an back, mostly geometric star-shaped ornaments.
Height: 44.5 cm
Width: approx. 26 cm With age- and use-related traces of wear, the handle has been glued
Probably commissioned work for a Princely House.
According to the Ceramic Museum in Frechen, the shape indicates that this is a so-called “Sternenkanne” (Star Jug) - from the Westerwald - 17th century.
The “Bartmannskrug” was sculpted by hand, which is highly atypical - unique piece - commissioned work - the location of manufacture has not been successfully determined as of yet.

Probably a special unique piece.
