Aristide Maillol was born on December 8, 1861 in Banyuls-sur-Mer, where he died on September 27, 1944. He is a French painter, engraver and sculptor.

He began his career as a painter and was very interested early on in decorative arts (ceramics and tapestry), before dedicating himself to sculpture, when he was around forty years old.
