This is the third part of a series of well-illustrated works on insects - the other two volumes - here not present - both deal with Coleoptera. This volume, however, contain the COMPLETE section on orthoptères (grasshoppers), néuropteres (dragonflies, lacewings), hémiptères (true bugs), hyménoptères (bees, wasps and ants), lépidoptères (butterflies and moths), and diptères (flies, crane flies, mosquitos, etc).
There are 64 plates, as follows: Orthoptera and Blattoida 11; Neuroptera and Odonata 5; Hemiptera 15; Hymenoptera 7; Lepidoptera 22; Diptera 4. So butterflies moths, and bug are best represented. The work is concluded with an index.
This volume comes in a contemporary binding: half calf over marbled boards; spine rich gilt with floral elements. Marbled endpapers and marbled edges.
Boards a bit rubbed, somewhat more at the edges, with the front hinges starting, but in all still holding firm. There are no previous ownership marks - this is not an ex-library copy. Some scattered, mostly light foxing. Many plates are clean. a very nice copy indeed.
