Sawankhalok ceramic box with lid. Globular fruit form, decorated with cross hatching and stylised dragons in blue/brown. On top of the lid is a bird. This type of box was used for storing cosmetics, medicine, spices and betel-chewing equipment.
Thai pottery from the Sukhothai period from the kilns of S(r)i Satchanalai, around Sawankhalok in north-central Thailand. This period started in the 13th until the 16th century, although this box might be of later date.
In very good condition. Some crazing on the surface. From a private collection.
