Dimitri Vanderhaeghen (Ghent, 1974) - graduated in 2012 from the Academy of Ghent (2nd specialisation year painting) - has been painting for more than fifteen years, but only quite intensively since 2009.
His work is described as pictorially lived through, very idiosyncratic and authentic, which contains madness. A fast, driven painting style ensures expressive results. He paints a wide variety of subjects in a very personal and expressionistic way, without falling into excessive drama.
He was particularly inspired by the German expressionist artists' collective Die Brücke (1905-1913), but also by great masters such as James Ensor, Edvard Munch, Asger Jorn and Vincent Van Gogh.
